For anglers, Mongolia presents one of the best opportunities for their sport in the world. Fly fishing in particular is said to be better here than anywhere with taimen growing to a huge size and offering challenges unlike any other freshwater fish
Fishing in Mongolia offers enthusiasts a unique and rewarding experience amidst the country's pristine natural landscapes. The most renowned fishing destination is Lake Khövsgöl, often referred to as the "Blue Pearl of Mongolia." This crystal-clear lake, located in northern Mongolia near the Russian border, is home to several species of fish, including the endemic Khövsgöl grayling and lenok trout. Anglers can enjoy fishing from the shore or venture out onto the lake in traditional wooden boats.
Another popular fishing spot is the Onon River, located in eastern Mongolia. This river, flowing through picturesque valleys and forests, provides opportunities to catch lenok trout and the elusive taimen, known as the "river wolf" for its size and predatory nature.
